Degree navigator

What is Degree Navigator? DegNav

Degree Navigator (DN) monitors progress toward the completion of your degree. DN also checks honors requirements as well as requirements for a minor or minors, additional majors and degrees. The system is available 24/7 through the University’s Ozone system ( https://ozone.ou.edu/cp/home/displaylogin ) or at degree.ou.edu .

The College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences also uses Degree Navigator to maintain student records. Faculty advising recommendations, your projected graduation date, mid-semester grade reports, degree checks, transfer equivalency notations, and special permission memos are all kept online in DN under “Notes.”

How do I log on to Degree Navigator?

Go to Degree Navigator and log in, using your 4x4 and your password. Once you access the DN system, you will see your degree, minor(s), second majors, and honors requirements listed separately under “My Degrees.” This information includes (from left to right on the page):

Degree Code

Degree Name

Minimum number of hours required to complete the degree

Start Term (the term you entered the Oklahoma State System for Higher Education, which is also the degree program year you are following)

An “AUDIT” icon Click on the AUDIT icon to access your records.

Under the DEGREE AUDIT page that comes up, go to the pull-down menu in the first (gray) box. You have several options here; we recommend that you use “Full Report.”

How do I read Degree Navigator?

The “Full Report” monitors all aspects of your degree. In the first box, “AUDIT FULL REPORT,” it lists your Sooner ID#, the name of your degree, number of hours completed and number of requirements completed.

The Completed Hours category shows the minimum number of hours required to complete your degree and how many hours you have earned, including your current enrollment. In addition to hours, you must also fulfill specific degree program requirements.

The Completed Requirements category shows the minimum number of specifically required categories to complete a degree in Geography, Geographic Information Science, or Meteorology, and how many categories you have fulfilled. Please note that both Hours and Requirements must be complete before your degree may be granted.

Following this information is the DN LEGEND, which explains which symbols are used to show if a course or an entire section of requirements has been completed, is in progress, or if you’re planning to take it in a future semester.

Unlike your degree requirement checksheet (which recommends courses on a semester-to semester basis) the “Full Report” groups your degree requirements into specific categories. Depending on your degree, and if you're pursuing a minor, minors, or second degree, the number of categories will vary, as will the order in which they are presented. The categories will always include: Major, General Education, Overall hours, Upper division hours, and electives. When applicable, the categories will also include: College electives, Major Support requirements, and Minor and/or Second Degree requirements.

Clicking on any course will bring up a course description, listing all prerequisites and co-requisites, as well as when the course is usually offered (fall, spring, summer). The system will also allow you to select a future semester and to add the course to your Course Planner. Please note that adding a course in your course planner does not guarantee that the course will be offered that semester.

If you are thinking about adding a minor or second degree from a college other than Atmospheric & Geographic Sciences, click on the “Search Degrees” icon (located in the upper left-hand corner of your screen). Type in the name of the minor or major in which you’re interested. Follow the same procedure for accessing these requirements as you would for your current major or minor.

The “Full Report” also monitors GPA requirements on your OU work, in your major, and overall, the upper-division General Education requirement, high school deficiencies, and specific OU and State Regents' requirements. Deficiencies in any area are noted in red. Toward the end of the Report, you will see all the courses you have taken listed in alphabetical order. Underneath this is a listing of any courses not being applied toward your degree (usually remedial courses, repeated courses, courses you dropped, or excess hours not specifically required).

We do not recommend printing out the report, as it is over 25 pages long.

The Notes portion of your DN record is under your name on the left-hand side of the screen; just click on “Manage Notes” to read your file.
